3 reasons your Shopify store is failing (and how to fix them)
Sep 6, 2023
You’ve been sold a lie. Those dropshipping videos telling you you can make £millions a month selling lousy products off Alibaba have sold you a dream.
95% of Shopify stores fail. Now that’s a pretty high number if you ask me. Many e-commerce owners are making the same mistakes. And even more are thinking they can DIY it and get results.
Here are some of the key reasons your Shopify store isn’t performing:
1. Your brand and product are not unique
Or at least your positioning isn’t unique. If you’re selling jewellery like Missoma, Hey Harper or Monica Vinader, you better have a strong value proposition. You need to stand out among your competitors and a reason why customers should pick you over others.
Solution - Dedicate time defining your unique selling point and then communicate that throughout your Shopify store
2. Your store looks crap
97% of clients’ purchasing decisions are influenced by a business’ website - Hubspot.
Default Shopify themes only get you so far. If your store is poorly designed, has terrible user experience, or looks like every other Shopify store out there, you’re going to turn off customers. They’ll find it difficult to navigate or they won’t trust your brand enough to buy.
Solution - Don’t settle on a default Shopify theme, customise it using the code editor to attract your ideal customer
3. You haven’t built up trust
81% of consumers say they need to be able to trust the brand in order to buy from them - Edelman
If someone hasn’t heard of your brand before, they’ll want to know if they buy from you that 1) you’ll deliver the product, 2) the product is of a high quality, 3) if there’s a problem, you’ll fix it. If your USP is a specific characteristic of your product e.g. it’s made from sustainable materials, you need to make sure you live up to that promise.
Solution - Get social proof such as testimonials, invest effort in customer service, and share information about your products to build trust
When it comes to making changes in your Shopify store, start with one change at a time so you can more effectively see what is creating improvements. Pick one.
